Modern Brown Girl is a digital media platform that promotes black and brown narratives through content written for and by women of color. Our mission is to amplify black and brown voices through curated content that inspires you to live your best life.

At MBG, we strive to illuminate the beauty of everything through the lens of the culturally savvy. We will not recommend or feature anything that we are not passionate about ourselves. We hope you will follow us on this journey as we strive to bring you a collective of all things mind, body, and soul.

Modern Brown Girl, LLC. is based out of Chicago, Illinois. 

A graduate of the University of Southern California with a B.A. in Comparative Literature, Gabriela worked for literary agencies in the film and television industry in developing literary talent for studio films and network television. She went on to become a talent agent with Pakula/King & Associates in Beverly Hills, working with casting directors and studio executives from Warner Bros., Sony, Universal, Paramount, and Fox in the development and marketing of talent. Gabriela was previously the Content Marketing Director for Najera Consulting Group, a strategic consulting firm, and served on the Board of Directors for Teatro Vista. She was nominated by the Chicago Latino Network for Latino Entrepreneur of The Year and was a member of the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce + 1871’s Latinx Incubator.

Gabriela is also a freelance TV writer for Remezcla.com and a contributing editor for TheEverymom.com. She resides just outside of Chicago with her husband and two children.

Yanira Garcia is a Chicago based beauty and style expert. For the past 15 years, she has worked as a makeup artist for some of the biggest brands in the industry like Chanel, Shiseido, YSL, Smashbox, Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier. Yanira is also a freelance stylist and has worked with top models from Elite, Ford, BMG as well as actor Freddie Rodriguez, Café Magazine and Chicago Magazine. In 2012 she was featured by Latina Magazine as a Favorite Latina Blogger and again in 2013 as a Top Ten Beauty Blogger to watch.

Cynthia Chavarria is currently working on completing her degree in Digital Marketing. She works at Getty Images in Chicago for the Latin American region. She also serves on Getty Images' Diversity and Inclusion Global Advisory Committee. Cynthia is passionate about staying socially aware, supporting her community, and giving back. Her favorite life motto is, "It's never too late to be who you want to be, and do what you want to do". And she tries live each day by leading with love and empathy. Cynthia resides right outside Chicago.
