How To Embrace Your Best Skin This Season With Latina Dermatologist Dr. Barba

How to take care of your skin in the summer

As the weather warms up, it’s the perfect moment to reset our routines and take a deeper look at our skin. Dove Dermatologist, and Latina beauty expert, Dr. Alicia Barba shares her best tips to ensure your skin is hydrated, protected, and looking its best as we approach the hottest time of year.

Sunscreen Errr’day!

Although you may not be getting sunburned, the damaging effect of the sun is cumulative. It is best to be protected from UVA and UVB with daily use of SPF, even if it is mixed into your moisturizer. The more you protect the less pigment issues you will have to deal with, and the lower skin cancer risk you will have!

Bar Cleansers…or Not?

During this transitional season, our skin is constantly dealing with crazy weather fluctuations, causing our skin to overreact. To help offset issues, like dry skin, irritation, and more, the right cleanser is key right at the start of your routine – the shower. My go-to is the Dove Beauty Bar, it’s formulated with ¼ moisturizing cream, to cleanse AND hydrate at the same time, which is an essential balance to maintaining healthy skin. What’s best is that the Bar is gentle enough to be on the face, beyond just the body!

Ugh, Allergy Takeover!

During allergy season it is very common for eczema to flare, especially in patients who suffer from allergic rhinitis or asthma, caused by a hyperreactive immune system that gets exposed to the allergens in the air, which can lead to itchy skin and welts. A good skincare routine is beneficial when suffering from allergies. Always use gentle cleansing products and emollients to keep the skin from getting dry and decrease the risk for eczema flares.

Vacation On The Horizon?

Bring your own skincare products! Hotel room products may have too much fragrance or not be right for your skin. Many times, they’re also not rich enough or cleansing enough, which can lead to dry skin or breakouts. Quick tip - when purchasing skincare, ask for sample sized products of the items and save them for your travel kit.

Self-Care Is The Best Care

Exfoliation is the best way to reset and refresh your skin, at least once to twice a week, as it helps to remove dead skin cells so that light reflects smooth and radiant skin. My new favorite is the Dove Exfoliating Body Polish as it exfoliates and nourishes the skin. I always tell my patients exfoliation should always be followed by moisturization!
