Support La Cultura This Holiday with These 5 Latinx Shops
Buena Noche is right around the corner and one way to make a difference this holiday season is to be intentional about where you spend your money. Being mindful of whom you are sourcing products and services from can tremendously help small business owners, especially Latinx owned ones. Think of the difference you can make by diverting your dollars into the hands of people who can transform communities. According to Forbes, Latinos make up a whopping $1.7 trillion dollars in purchasing power. Our communities would flourish if that money was spent on goods produced by Latinx businesses. This holiday season, support la cultura by shopping at these five amazing Latinx owned shops.
1. Yo Soy Afro Latina
Yo Soy Afro Latina was founded by Bianca Kathryn. In this eclectic shop, you’ll find tees, totes, pins, mugs, and so much more. I really do need every t-shirt on the site, but my favorite is “The &&& Tee.” Yo Soy Afro Latina is a beautiful representation of how our culture is so diverse.
2. Rizos Curls
Rizos Curls was created by Julissa Prado. She tried different products to manage her curls, and after nothing worked, she decided to create these magical products. This product is near and dear to my hair! I started using it a year ago, and let me tell you, I will never use anything else. Your rizo headed comadres y compadres will love you forever.
3. Hija de Tu Madre
Hija de Tu Madre was founded by Patty Delgado and there are so many products on the site that celebrates Latinidad beautifully. Each piece is a reminder of our culture, and a reminder to be our authentic selves. These estrellita dangle earrings will have you shining bright.
4. Gente Fina
Chi-Town stand up! Gente Fina is a brand founded by Manny Cabrera and Abraham Cortez. Their brand represents la cultura and the greatness of our people. This distressed jacket with the words “RE$A POR MI” on the front and a beautiful image of the Virgencita adorned with roses on the back is the latest piece dropped by Gente Fina. Just in time for the holidays.
5. Peralta Project
Perlata Project was created by artist M.Tony Peralta. If you’re ever in Uptown Manhattan, be sure to stop by his flagship store, Taller Peralta. His work is so dope. For the people on your list that don’t do mornings, but want to keep it cordial, this “No Me Jodas” coffee mug will keep all the crazy madrugadores in check.
